Shit Happens...Literally
Monday, August 28, 2006, 09:00 AM - Life
That was the phrase of the day on Saturday. Let me explain...

Saturday mornings are usually my day to sleep in. Erin takes Sophia out to see her grandmother, mother and aunt and they have a little morning get together. I usually take advantage of this by getting a couple of hours of sleep. Erin was up at her usual time that morning getting ready before Sophia woke up. We had heard little from her during the night and only a little talking that morning. This was all very normal for a Saturday morning. Then Sophia started crying. This is pretty normal as well. Usually it means that she has figured out that mommy is in the bathroom and she wants Erin to open the door so she can see her. Erin did just that...and then I heard, "oh shit!" This was not normal. Erin is always a lot better than I am at watching her language around Sophia so for her to say that there had to be something wrong. I jumped out of bed grabbed my glasses and rushed into Sophia's room.

The stench was awful! We're not sure when, but sometime during the night Sophia managed to strip off her diaper. There was poop everywhere! The sheets, once white with purple butterflies, were now brown...just BROWN. Sophia was covered in it and the crib itself had streaks of poop all over it. We took her out and put her right into the tub, clothes and all. I stripped the crib and decided that it was better to just throw the sheets out. Bleach or no bleach, they'd never be white again. Needless to say, it took us a while to get everything cleaned up. I left the windows open in her room, while running a fan for a couple of hours to get rid of the smell. Thank god for febreeze!

So that was the adventure for this weekend.

On a more upbeat note Sophia has started saying Mama and Dada this weekend. It was rather amazing. Friday night we had heard her making the dada sound and didn't really think anything of it. I went to walk out of the room and I heard this little voice shout, "DADA!" I spun right around and walked back into the room to find Sophia sitting on the floor looking at me smiling. Quietly, looking at me, she said it again. "Da da...da da"

Erin and I just looked at each other. I nearly melted right there.

Erin had pretty much the same thing happen to her on Saturday and Sunday. In the afternoon Sophia had been making the mama sound. Sophia was on the floor in the living room playing. Erin went to run upstairs and Sophia shouted, "Ma ma!". Erin ran back down the stairs and there was Sophia, sitting there on the floor looking at Erin smiling. Again, she sat there smiling at her mommy, saying, "Ma ma...ma ma."

We were both floored. We've been waiting for the day she would say "mama' and "dada" and she goes and says them both within 24 hours of each other. It's like she wanted to make sure neither of us felt left out.

That's all for now. More to follow in the coming weeks.

Yup...I Suck
Wednesday, August 23, 2006, 09:47 PM - Life
Ok...here it is and yet again it has taken me forever to post a new entry.

Yup...I suck!

Anyway...For the 3 people left that actually read this thing here's a new entry.

If you didn't already know, Erin and I have moved. About four weeks ago I was on the phone with the rental office of the apartment complex where we live and I asked if they would be offering a deal again this year for us to move out and into another apartment. A little background; for the last 3 years the management of the complex has been going through an remodeling all of the apartment buildings as people move out. We moved into one of the last un-remodeled units. Every year they've been offering us a free months rent to move out so they can remodel our apartment. In the last few months we've been so fed up with our neighbors that we've been looking to move. We really wanted to go. The back hallway of the building reeked of cheap cigarettes and the front of the building looked as if a redneck trailer park threw up on it. Imagine tiki torches and party lights...all the time! All we needed was a few garden gnomes, plastic flamingos, and a rusted out Camaro up on blocks and we'd have been in redneck hell. Not to mention the fact that the woman that lived in the front downstairs had unfortunate affinity for tube tops. I'm sorry, but chunky women with large saggy boobs, missing teeth, and bleached blonde hair shouldn't be allowed to wear anything that exposes skin beneath the chin let alone a freakin' tube top! The last time I ran into her she smelled of alcohol and was wearing a tank top that had the words "beer bitch" written on it. SCARY!

Well, they offered us a free months rent and we jumped at it. The townhouse has two bedrooms and a basement. Sophia has a ton of room to play and the cat loves it. I have to admit that it feels more like "home" than the apartment ever did.

I think the best feature has to be having our own basement. It means that we have a vast amount of storage space and get this, OUR OWN WASHER AND DRYER! No more waiting until 11 o'clock at night to throw my laundry in the dryer because some inconsiderate retard left their nasty wet underwear in the dryer for 4 freakin' hours.

In other news...

Sophia turned 9 months old yesterday. She's getting ready to say her first word soon and I only give her another month (maybe six weeks) before she takes her first steps. Oh yeah...she's got 6 teeth now. How crazy is that!?!

One of my favorites...

Here's a gallery of Sophia's first time eating pasta...

Yes, I know, I know, we didn't put any sauce on the pasta. We just weren't ready for that kind of mess.

As for Erin...

Here's a portrait that I shot of here the other day...

That's all for now.

The 50 Albums that Changed Music
Sunday, July 23, 2006, 10:19 AM - Life
This is really cool. I found this online this morning. The Observer newspaper out of the UK did a feature where they profiled the 50 albums that changed music.

50 Albums that changed music

I think the thing that surprised me is that this is the first of these kinds of lists where I pretty much agreed with most of the items on it.

Who can deny that Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan changed the face of music forever. There were a few albums on this list that I've never heard so I'll have to check them out.

Enjoy!

PS - Sophia and Mommy are doing awesome...as usual
