Interesting Stuff on the Web
Wednesday, June 4, 2003, 08:31 PM - Life
Just a quick update today. The move into the new apartment is going very well. I should be completely moved by the end of the day on Friday. Thanks to everyone that has helped. I'll post some pictures after I get a chance to get them developed.

A couple of interesting news articles that I found today:

The Future of the US Soldier from CNN. A very interesting look at the future of the US field soldier. Some of the stuff is way out there but a lot of it could be implemented within the next few years.

Weapons of Mass Disappearance from Time. An intriguing look at the over statement of Iraq's weapons capabilities. It is critical of the Bush administration, but after reading the facts that they present it is hard to argue against their point. Even if you agreed with the war you still have to wonder where all those WMDs that they made such a big deal about are. What are the consequences to our credibility as a nation if none or very few are found?

Dubya-nomics from Time. A great look at Bush's tax cut plan. It may work, but according to this article, it sure is an ass-backwards way to go about it.

Read 'em or not. It's your choice. I just like to provide a little of the things that I find interesting. I don't know when my next update will be so hang with me!

May 2003 - Part II
Friday, May 30, 2003, 11:30 PM - Life
Okay, so I've only posted twice during the month of May...I know. I've been a bit busy. Erin graduated from Brockport, it was our 2 year anniversary last Friday and we've been getting ready to move into our apartment. Speaking of which, we just signed the lease today and the manager there was nice enough to give us our keys a couple of days ahead of time so that we can get started early on Sunday without having to stop buy the rental office.

It's so overwhelming. I'm moving out on my own for the first time in my entire life. I cannot believe it! It's going to take some getting used to but I think I'll manage. The biggest thing is going to be simply getting used to having to wash my own clothes and cook my own meals. The grocery shopping thing is going to be a little weird at first too. I'm not used to having to buy the basics (i.e. eggs, bread, milk, OJ, lunch meat, and various others).

I've got to get going to bed. My next post will probably be in a couple of weeks. I'm moving into my apartment next week and I won't have internet available to me until the 13th of June. Once my internet service is up and running I have a ton of jokes and other fun things to post.

May News
Saturday, May 3, 2003, 06:30 PM - Life
I was on the net perusing the news and found an article that blew my mind! IPN or Inter-Planetary Networking! I had to read the article twice just to get my head around the concept. Any of you who've ever watched Star Trek know what a "sub-space relay" is and this technology isn't far from it. The fact that they have already assigned IP addresses to all of the planets, the moons and the satellites is a little mind boggling. I'm still thinking that we'll be beginning to colonize Mars by 2050 and there will be a whole generation of humans who were not born on Earth. In the words of Keanu Reeves...."Whoa!"

In other news...

Wedding plans are progressing nicely and I'm actually starting to get used to the idea of moving out on my own at the end of the month. I just picked up a pair of end tables from a guy that I work with (THANKS TIM!). They're in good shape and they actually match my furniture...sort of...well, let's just say that they're close enough. The next endeavor will be to get a new bed. I'm thinking king, but it will depend upon how much space that's going to leave us in the room. We may need to stay with a queen. Other than that all we need are some lamps and the usual household things that you never think about until you need them. I'm anticipating several unplanned, spur of the moment trips to BBB and Home Depot after we've moved in.

More to follow as things happen...

Almost May
Monday, April 28, 2003, 12:33 PM - Life
So, it's almost May and I figured I'd better get another update in before the end of the month. It's only 95 days until the wedding and I have to be honest with you I'm getting anxious. It's not a bad anxious, just a strange kind of "wow this is all happening pretty fast" anxious. It won't be long before we're moving into our new apartment. I've really got to start packing. I keep looking at my room thinking, "holy crap, I've got a lot of stuff!" It's a daunting task that I'm not particularly looking forward to.

I was finally able to pick up the dining room table and chairs set that I had been eyeing at Sam's for the last couple of weeks. It's really nice and only cost $250. All solid hardwood. It was a great deal and it will fit perfectly into our dining area. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have any left. I talked to someone there and they told me that they'd have 8 more soon. It took nearly two weeks! It's a small price to pay for high quality "cheap" furniture!

Working Late on a Saturday SUCKS!
Saturday, April 12, 2003, 10:50 PM - Life
So, I'm sitting here at work, it's almost 11 on a Saturday night and I'm fighting the urge to fall asleep, because I know that I have to drive home in just over an hour.

Well, the ice is gone and most of the snow from the near blizzard we had at the beginning of the week is gone as well. From what I can gather from the weather reports it looks like winter may finally be over *knock on wood*. Thank God too, because I was beginning to believe that it wasn't going to end. The sun was out today and I drove to work with my sunroof open. That was nice...of course now I have to get a haircut so I don't come out of the car looking like a windblown sheepdog!

For those of you who are unaware, I put up two more picture galleries and added two pictures to the miscellaneous gallery.

Pictures of my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix (I LOVE MY CAR!!!) and pictures that I took during the Ice Storm. As always, comments are welcome!

Oh yeah...one more thing. I found a really great tool a couple of weeks ago. It's called Favorites Home Page. It's completely free and it's definitely worth a look. Basically, it creates a fully navigable web page with links to all of your favorites. It resides on your computer and it makes sifting through your favorites list a lot less of a hassle. I have it on both my home and work PC's.

Anyway...enough rambling for one evening.

- Bye!
